Quantum Physics . |

To explain the properties of energy at the sub-atomic level, physicists needed a new theory, a new vision of the atom. This vision came from the physics called Quantum Mechanics. The FIRST IDEA was that tiny objects could not move as large objects seemed to move in our everyday world. Atom-sized objects moved in jerky leaps from one place to another, (called Quantum Jumps), without going into the space between the two points . No one could predict with any certainty just where an object was going to be after appearing somewhere. The SECOND IDEA was that the tiny objects could not exist objectively independent of the observers of these objects. Thus, what one chose to examine altered what existed. The THIRD IDEA was that there had to be a new order in the Universe. This order was not the order expected using the classical physics. Instead, it was an order that involved US! This order said that WE were in control of possibilities, but NOT actualities. We could predict where and when something was likely to occur, but not where and when it WOULD occur. |
